A Foodie’s Guide to Call It Kismet

Call It Kismet

Feeling hungry? Get a little cooking inspiration from Call It Kismet!

When I’m not writing (or chasing after my twin toddlers or lounging in front of the TV or running a million errands. . .), I’m usually cooking. I love food and I get really excited to discover new recipes. Cooking is a way for me to relax and escape the real world.

So what would be more perfect for someone like me than to combine Call It Kismet with my love for good food?! This is how my greatest idea was born: a foodie’s guide to my first book. Here are some of the delicious treats mentioned in the novel, as well as recipes to get you started on your eating tour of Key West, Florida.

  1. Mint chocolate chip ice cream, dessert of the Gods. Call It Kismet opens with Millie enjoying this treat to start her vacation with Randy. Clearly, there are a million ways to enjoy this dairy goodness. You can buy it pre-made at the grocery store, head to an ice cream shop for a fresh scoop, or make your own at home. If you’re interested in the DIY method, here’s a delicious recipe from Our Best Bites to get you started.

2. When in Florida, you better eat some seafood. While all fish is delicious (hey, I don’t discriminate), Millie’s choice is a giant snapper. Snapper is lean and firm, with a delicate, mild taste. Great for beginners! This recipe from Taste of Home has me wanting to go buy some Red Snapper for lunch today.

3. Fun fact: I don’t drink. Not a drop. However, I frequently write about characters who do like to drink, Millie Westover included. The girl has a love for a good pina colada, and I can’t say that I blame her. Here’s a tasty version from Gimme Some Oven that Millie would love, and non-alcoholic version from Yummy Mummy Kitchen that you can bet I’ll be whipping up sometime this weekend.

Enjoy!!

xoxo
